Sports Day 2008

Sports Day

This year the Beaver Scouts were invited to take part in the annual District Sports Day event. The sun shone down on us all which was in much better contrast to last year where it practically rained for the whole day.

It was fantastic to see many different Colonies turn out for some friendly and good clean fun along with a chance to show off their sporting skills. The Beaver Scouts took part in the usual traditional sports day events such as the running race, egg and spoon, relay, three legged race and a welly wangling contest. On more than one occasion our ADC Beaver Leader nearly got hit on the head by a flying wellington boot. It was all in good fun though I might add. He was quick to get out of the way.

I would personally like to say a huge thank you to Julie Morley of the 9th Barking and Dagenham for being in charge of the scoring on the day. It got quite hectic at one point when she was surrounded by lots of Beaver Scouts flashing their place cards at her. Well done Julie, you coped extremely well. I would also like to thank Sue of the 11th B&D for running the egg and spoon event so well. Collecting those eggs at the end of the race was a trying task at times. Thanks also go to both Julie and my fellow District Beaver Scout Leader Mandy, for writing out lots and lots of certificates. Lastly, many thanks to Liono our ADC Beaver Scout Leader who, not only dodged the flying wellies, but also made sure that the Beavers had a fun day.

Everybody appeared to have a great time which is fundamental especially when District events are of a competitive nature. Overall winners of the competition in the Beaver Scout Section were:

Position Group
1st 19th B&D
2nd 10th/18th B&D
3rd 8th B&D

Well done to all the young people who took part. It was great to see more Colonies attending this event. I look forward to seeing many more of you next year.
