Barking & Dagenham Young Leaders

The Barking & Dagenham Explorers are not just a regular Explorer section, we also run the Young Leaders scheme for all Barking & Dagenham Beaver, Cub and Scout sections.

We assist in the running and planning of group evenings, camping expeditions, district events, day trips and much more. We aim to offer help to all 3 of the younger Scouting sections from the very first day.

A Young Leader is just as valuable as a warranted leader, but are part of the Explorer section and aged 14-17 years old...

Young Leaders also get the luxury of being an Explorer as well, and as an Explorer, they still get to participate in events and have fun just like the rest of your section.

When on camp they can get wet, get up that wall and have a spin on the go karts, and when at meetings, can have a laugh with the kids and muck in at campfires. They're not just your regular leader, they're much more...

As well as offering assistance to Beaver, Cub and Scout groups around the district, the Young Leader scheme offers the chance of practical experience in the organising and running of a Scout group. The YL can get 'on-the-job' training from their placement as well as being guided by the YL Scheme set out by the Scout Association.

Useful things such as first response, wall climbing/canoeing and archery instructors* are available to your group from your YL to reduce costs of camps and/or activity days.
