Chess Competition - 17 January - 17th HQ This is the year we went 'hi-tech'. The computer handled the tournament, I did the shouting and clicking and the Scouts did the thinking and playing. Results and details are available for download. Thank you to all that helped, the Scouts, the adjudicators and the 17th for the hosting and refreshments.

Dowling (Acting ADC Scouts) Mark Sutton Competition - 31 January - 10/18th HQ We had 8 patrols from 7 groups attend. The competition was run smoothly by Dave and Richard and we finsihed earlier than normal (partly due to lower numbers) and had time for a quick First Aid tutorial session. Dowling (Acting ADC Scouts) Incident Hike - 8 May 2004 - Abridge A big Thank You to all the leaders and Explorers who helped to plan, organise and run the event. From what I could see it ran fairly smoothly (any hiccups likely to have been my fault) and was certainly run safely. Without all your hard work these events are just not possible. Thank You. Timed Trophy Incident Trophy Please pass on a thank you and well done to all the Scouts who attended today. Darren Dowling (Acting ADC Scouts) Organiser - Darren

Dowling (Acting ADC Scouts) PL Thingy - 25/26 September - Thriftwood 15 PL's and APL's slowly gelled together over the course of 2 days. With practical skills being learnt as well as team building challenges they all picked up at least one or two ideas that could help them understand what it means to lead. Thanks to the catering team of Rose, T and Terry. Thanks to the leaders who did a good job of passing on their knowledge and experience, Vic, Lance, Mark, Doc, Steve and Dave. Dowling (Acting ADC Scouts) Environmental Day - 9 October - Hargreaves Who would have thought that being waist deep in water shovelling mud could be so much fun? Well over 30 Cubs and 18 Scouts cant all be wrong. The young people and the leaders worked very hard during the day to clear large areas of Hargreaves woods and streams. Even within the first ten minutes the difference in water level was noticable (I noticed because I was in it at the time). Our friends from McDonalds also did a sterling job and were extremely helpful. Our thanks goes to them. At the end of the day everyone went home a little tired but very proud of all their hard work. My thanks to all the Cubs and Scouts for working so well throughout the day. Thank you to all the leaders and the people from McDonalds for all your effort and help. Dowling (Acting ADC Scouts) Activity Day - 10 October - Thriftwood 39 Scouts had an action packed day at Thriftwood. Officially the activities were kayaking, climbing, rifle shooting, cork guns, rafting, laser tag, 3d maze, archery, volleyball and crossbows. Unofficially we also had getting wet, getting muddy, getting cold, wet and muddy, getting lost looking for bases, the scrum for activity allocation slips and just generally having a laugh. Perhaps we need to drum the idea of spare clothes into the Scouts even harder. I know that several leaders went home with a lot less clothes than they arrived in to ensure that some Scouts stayed warm and dry. Thanks to all the leaders who helped throughout the day, the event simply could not have gone ahead without all your hard work. Rose, T, Roy and Lyn did an excellent job with the catering and looking after base camp. Richard, Lance, Terry, Dave, Vic, Steve, Graham and Scott did a good job of manning the bases and keeping the Scouts active. Darren Dowling (Acting ADC Scouts) Organiser - Darren
Dowling (Acting ADC Scouts) Survival Camp - 27/28 November - Danemead Numbers were disappointing compared to early estimates but 10 Scouts were shown how to surviva over the weekend by Graham, Scott and Doc. Thanks also to Richard and T for all their help. Darren Dowling (Acting ADC Scouts) Organiser - Darren
