Chess Competition - 18 January - 17th HQ Run on a Swiss System this year the event was practically run by the scouts themselves overseen by Chris Cridland. Thanks to Chris for running the scout section, the 17th for hosting the event and keeping us ‘refreshed’, to the judges who had a very difficult job, to the leaders who helped out and most importantly of all to the Scouts who made the competition run so well. Dowling & David Nickols 5 a side Football - Results 2nd - 9th A B&D 3rd - 1st B&D 4th - 16th B&D 9 teams from 8 troops attended. We played in two leagues with the top two teams from each league going through to form a 'final' league of four teams. These teams played each other once and the highest scoring team were declared the winners of the competition. The atmosphere was excellent and there were no problems at all. A big thank you to the two referees, Dean Milton and Scott Oakwell, who were worked very hard during the day. Many thanks to all the leaders/parents and scouts on the day and to all who helped. Dowling & David Nickols Sports Day -
8 troops were represented at this years Sports Day. Numbers were perhaps a little lower than in previous years but that doesnt detract from the sheer effort put in by the competitors on the day. Every one present obviously pushed themselves hard and all did very well. A big thank you to all who helped on the day, the parents/leaders who helped in adjudicating, taking the scores, writing the certificates, manning the bases and track and starting/finishing the races. Thank you to the team of leaders and fellowship who manned the refreshements and tuck shops. I personally apologise for runnign the track races too quickly...this was pointed out to me by some of the Scouts and they had a fair point. I will make sure there is sufficient rest time between races next year. Darren Dowling (DSL) Organiser - Darren
Dowling Camping Competition -
6 patrols from 4 groups entered the Len Bridge and 3 patrols entered the St. Georges Camping Competition. Im sure that all improved over the weekend and picked up some camping skills and hints and tips which include: how to light a fire, "yes! you really do need that much wood", make sure your bowl stand actually stands up BEFORE you wash up, dont throw hot dogs into long grass just before the warden comes and cuts it, if you have tinned food remember to put "tin opener" on your equipment list, yes - leaders will be watching, even at 2 in the morning... and other little camping gems of information. All in all an enjoyable weekend. A big thank you to the team that stayed over the weekend, they worked hard and were a great help to the Scouts. Thank you Clare, Darren, Ken, Lee, Rose, Terry and Wayne. Darren Dowling (DSL) Organiser - Darren
